Our Philosophy
Dear Customer,
Welcome to the Killer Strands E-Commerce Store. I hope that your visit to the store will mark the beginning of a new healthy hair regimen as well as an exciting home hair color experience for you. Killer Strands is growing into Killer Strands the Hair Clinic, which is just how I envisioned it. In conjunction with the Group (http://groups.google.com/group/killerstrands) and the Blog (http://killerstrands.blogspot.com), this store will give you all the information and products you need to achieve the hair color of your dreams as well as the healthiest hair you have ever seen, all from the comfort of home. I’m so thankful, not only to you the reader/client/customer for your support, but especially to my staff, who worked for very little to help put this together for everyone to enjoy.
Killer Strands’ main goal is to teach everyone to have healthy, strong hair. Our philosophy is that hair health comes first, and that every product that touches your hair should contribute in some way to its health. Hair color can be your best friend or your worst enemy in this regard – so learning to color your hair properly at home (without the use of box kits, which are one of the most destructive products on the market) is our main focus. Spend a few days reading the Blog, then join the Group and make yourself at home in our “crib” to join our discussions about everything hair related. The Blog and Group will teach you more than most cosmetology students learn to get their license in hair color, and I’m told the education is fun and interesting along the way!
I am passionate about hair, particularly hair color. There are countless lines of color on the market, but unfortunately, only a select few offer truly outstanding results. When I was working in a top salon in Malibu, I was not satisfied with the line the salon used as “house” hair color. I decided buy and use (at my own expense) a different line of hair color for my clients, because I could not in good conscience use anything less than what I knew to be the best hair color in the world. That was Renbow, Wella Koleston Perfect, Blondor and Color Touch back then – and it still is today. I am constantly reviewing and testing new lines of hair color, in search of even better products. Unfortunately, I am not having fantastic results. I welcome new lines, but I won’t use inferior product. I find it fascinating that no one has made a better hair color in all these years. The lines I offer here in the Killer Strands Store are simply the cream of the crop.
Throughout my years at the salon in Malibu, I also started to hear complaints about thinning and hair loss from younger and younger women, which sparked my interest in hair health. I was lucky to have a steady stream of clients willing to test my theories on the effects of diet, heat styling, exercise, water and hair care products on hair loss and health. Through much trial and error with thousands of clients, I invented a hair health regimen called “10,000 Heads,” a 14-step hair strengthening system.
Unfortunately, I was forced to retire from salon work due to a rare bone disease. During my treatments and down time I took up cosmetic chemistry, to learn how hair products were actually made. I realized that we have specialists that understand hair styling and hair color (cosmetologists), hair product invention (cosmetic chemists), and hair health/hair loss (dermatologists). However, each of them thinks the other two are useless, but without regard for all three issues, optimal hair health cannot be achieved. I am well studied in all three fields now, and for the first time in my career, I feel there is no question about hair that I cannot answer.
This education led to important additions to the 10,000 Heads program and prompted me to investigate every hair product I come across, including styling products, shampoos, conditioners, and of course hair color. I make and sell my own hair care products when I cannot find a product on the market that meets my standards.
My retirement also led me to begin the Killer Strands Blog. I am at a place in my life where I have a strong desire to “give back,” and with no other hair professionals (at this level) sharing their knowledge and technique on a free website, the Blog felt like the perfect venue. The Blog now has over 330 posts, with information ranging from the disease of Trichotillomania (hair-pulling) to bleaching hair brass-free (a photo demo) to the proper diet for strong hair and every single thing in between. There are also multiple posts about my 10,000 Heads regimen and Thriven, an essential part of the 10,000 Heads regimen and Killer Strands’ star product. Thriven is a deep conditioner that repairs seemingly un-repairable, damaged and thinning hair from the outside while a Secret Supplement (also part of 10,000 Heads) works from the inside of the hair strand. The results are nothing short of phenomenal. I never expected such warm and inspiring feedback, and through the blog I’ve made some great friends that blow me away, daily.
I am still fighting this disease and I don’t want to ever say I have given up. Killer Strands is my effort to stay involved in the world of hair and share my knowledge with everyone who wants to become a “crib colorist” or have better hair health. Happy Coloring!
Welcome,
KC Ellis
